The news comes as two Premier League mainstays are set to move on.
Fleetwood Town manager Joey Barton says the club are in "ongoing talks" with Glenn Whelan about a new contract.
The 36-year-old Republic of Ireland midfielder joined the League One side on a short-term deal earlier this year.
Whelan made 13 appearances with Fleetwood losing to Wycombe in the playoff semi-finals.
Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has left the club after six seasons with the Premier League champions.
The Croatian has completed a 10-point-9 million pound transfer to Russian club Zenit St Petersburg.
Lovren made just 15 appearances this term and departs Anfield having won the Prmier League and Champions League.
Always committed. Always passionate.

Another Premier League stalwart is moving on as Jan Vertonghen has announced he's leaving Tottenham.
The Belgian defender, whose contract was extended in June until the end of the current season, has not been offered a new long-term deal.
Vertonghen has spent eight years at Spurs making over 300 appearances.
