Czechia are now just 90 minutes away from a spot at this year's World Cup.

Ireland's long wait for an appearance at a World Cup finals continues, after their American dream ended last night.

They lost 4-3 to Czechia on penalties in Prague, after the game finished 2-2 following extra time.

Heimir Hallgrimsson's side surrendered a 2-0 lead in the game, with Troy Parrott finding the net from a penalty in the first half.

It was confirmed Sammie Szmodics was unconscious and spent the night in hospital after a nasty collision just moments after coming on.

Ireland will now play North Macedonia in a friendly on Tuesday at Aviva Stadium, after they were beaten 4-0 away to Denmark.
