The Ex-Town manager is in doubt about the midlanders ability to stay at the top after their cup final loss.
Former Athlone Town manager Tommy Hewitt is worried about the club's ability to keep up with the big guns next season.
It comes after the league champions' 6-1 defeat to Shelbourne in the Women's FAI Cup final in Tallaght Stadium on Sunday.
Ciaran Kilduff then stood down as manager of the club after the defeat.

The League of Ireland have announced this years SSE Airtricity Men's First Division Play-Off fixtures.
Athlone Town will take on Wexford in their bid to return to Ireland's top flight for the first time since 2014. Bray Wanderers face UCD in the other clash.
Both first-legs will start on Thursday at 7.45pm.
Dario Castelo's men are at home in Athlone Town Stadium this week.
The following Monday, the Midlanders must go to Ferrycarraig Park for the second-leg, kick-off is at 3 o'clock.
The First Division final will take place in Dalymount Park on November 2nd at 4pm.
The winners of the play-offs will then qualify for the Premier Division Promotion/Relegation Play-off final on the 16th of November.
That venue is yet to be decided.
