Westmeath's Irish International sevens player Katie Heffernan is hopeful the team's rapid rise on the circuit will draw more focus to the sport.
Organisers of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens series announced a pre-mature end to the season last month, leaving the Irish women with a 10th place in the overall standings in their inaugural season.
Mullingar RFC's Katie Heffernan made two appearances at events this season after being a key part in securing Ireland's place on the main circuit in 2019.
She says the IRFU has made big strides in making sevens an option for those who have the right skill-set in the XV's game:
