Westmeath photographer John McCauley captured a starling murmuration at Lough Ennell in Mullingar.

The spectacular display happened at dusk, when a huge flock of starlings took to the sky.

These murmurations typically happen from January to March, when the birds gather to sleep together as there is 'safety in numbers'.
