Twelve new two storey homes are on the way for those needing assisted living in Westmeath.

The project in Kinnegad will see eleven three bedroom family homes along with one four bedroom house for a family with special needs requirements.

Each building includes a wet room on the ground floor to provide for assisted showering.

Westmeath Labour councillor Dennis Leonard says projects like this are essential to allow those who need the facilities to stay within the community:
