The number of new cars registered in the midlands dropped by 14 per cent last year.

3,584 cars were registered in 2020, most of those in Westmeath.

Diesel remains the most popular engine type at 53 per cent, with hybrid, electric and plug-in hybrid accounting for a combined 20 per cent of the total.

Toyota was the most popular brand in the Offaly and Westmeath last year, while Skoda was the favourite in Laois.
