The Department of Housing is granting approval to Westmeath County Council and Tuath Housing for the project at the Marist College in Athlone.
12 one-bed and 16 two-bed units will be constructed within an existing four-storey building, with a new three-storey block to contain 27 two-bed apartments.
It's being funded under the department's Capital Assistance Scheme.
