There has been a drop of over 93% in the number of commencement notices in the midlands for last month.
Construction began on 88 homes in the region in May, with the highest being in Laois at 43, followed by Westmeath at 37 and Offaly at 8.
The month prior saw 1,387 commencements in the midlands, marking a fall of 1,299 on May's figures.
Nationally, construction has started on more than 32,000 homes in the first five months of this year.
