Santa and Miss Claus will officially turn on the lights on around 5:30pm.
Athlone will join in the Christmas celebrations this weekend with their own switching on of the town's Christmas lights.
This year's ceremony is organised by the Athlone Family Resource Centre, and Athlone Festival and Events Committee.
It kicks off at 3 pm on Sunday in front of the civic offices in the town - with performances from Mary Fox School of Speech and Drama, Na Fianna Mixed Martial Arts and Attitude Dance Company.
