A Sinn Féin colleague has been defending the Laois-Offaly TD this morning.
Sinn Féin's Brian Stanley will address his Public Accounts Committee colleagues after he deleted a tweet which prompted a backlash online.
The post referred to the War of Independence and the Troubles, and the Laois-Offaly TD has since apologised.
Some are calling for Sinn Féin to discipline Deputy Stanley in some way, which may include removing him as chair of the Oireachtas committee.
The party's finance spokesperson Pearse Doherty says there are people in the group who don't want him to stand aside:

Another party colleague is describing the tweet as 'crass' and 'incredible insensitive'.
Sinn Féin TD Eoin Ó Broin says the Portlaoise man will not be resigning as PAC chair:
But Deputy Stanley continues to face calls to resign.
The tweet about two attacks during the Troubles and the War of Independence which killed 35 British soldiers have been described as crass with the Taoiseach saying they had a mocking tone.
Former Labour leader Brendan Howlin says it's important for Sinn Féin to show there's consequences:
