Calls For Former Bank Buildings To Be Converted For Refugee Accommodation

A Laois councillor thinks banks should be playing their part in the Ukrainian response too.

Councillors in Laois have written to the government calling on banks that closed branches in the region to make their premises available to accomodate Ukrainian refugees. 

The UN Refugee Agency says more than four million people have now fled Ukraine since Russia launched its war. 

Over 14,000 have arrived in Ireland.

Fianna Fáil's Pádraig Fleming, who brought the motion, thinks banks must play their part in the response:
