Calls To Make Special School Summer Programmes Compulsory

Just over a quarter of students attended a programme this Summer.

Special school summer programmes should be made compulsory. 

The call is being made from Longford Senator, Micheál Carrigy. 

Just over a quarter of the near-nine thousand children in special schools attended a programme in 2023.

One in five special schools said they were unable to run such programmes as school buildings were unavailable during the summer months. 

The Fine Gael Senator says this is still a major issue of concern:
