Portlaoise Prison Officer Brian Stack was shot and killed in 1983.
Cabinet Ministers will discuss a state apology to the family of the murdered Midlands prison officer this morning.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin is set to address the Dáil on the issue tomorrow and will tell Ministers it's part of a series of moves to address the legacy of the Troubles.
Brian Stack was the chief prison officer at Portlaoise Prison when he was shot in the neck in 1983.
The IRA eventually admitted responsibility for the killing but to date no suspect has been identified and the Taoiseach will apologise for errors in the original garda investigation.
