Climatologist John Sweeney thinks the battery powered model could be good for Ireland's energy in theory.

A new energy storage project for Offaly could reduce Ireland's reliance on gas fired power stations.

That's according to climatologist John Sweeney, who thinks the battery powered model is a good thing for Ireland's energy in theory.

Lumcloon Energy is partnering with Italy's Energy Dome to use its CO2 storage technology, with two domes being built on the site of a former peat fired power station in Rhode.

Mr Sweeney feels most power generated in the country is going to data centres at the moment.

He's hopeful battery storage is the way forward:
