The tax system is changing from next month.
Homeowners are unnecessarily paying auctioneers to valuate their properties due to confusion of the Local Property Tax.
That's according to Offaly auctioneer and councillor, John Leahy.
Letters are being sent to homes across the country to explain changes to the LPT system next month, with a tax increase on the way for about a third of homeowners.
But Councillor Leahy feels the letter doesn't make clear that a professional valuation of properties is not required, just a self-valuation to be filled out online:
