Coronavirus: 264 New Cases; 2 Deaths Announced Today

News updates for Monday 14th December 2020.

Latest Figures:

The Health Protection Surveillance Centre has today been notified of 2 additional deaths related to COVID-19.

There has been a total of 2,126 COVID-19 related deaths in Ireland.

As of midnight Sunday 13th December, the HPSC has been notified of 264 confirmed cases of COVID-19. There is now a total of 76,449 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ireland.

Of the cases notified today;

128 are men / 134 are women

65% are under 45 years of age

The median age is 36 years old

79 in Dublin, 24 in Donegal, 19 in Kerry, 18 in Limerick, 14 in Kildare, 14 in Wexford and the remaining 96 cases are spread across 16 other counties.

As of 2pm today 215 COVID-19 patients are hospitalised, of which 33 are in ICU. 17 additional hospitalisations in the past 24 hours.

Concern Over Rise:

Public health officials are concerned after a rise in the number of daily Covid-19 cases.

The five-day average has risen to more than 300 after 429 new infections were reported yesterday.

The estimated national 14-day incidence rate has climbed to 84 per 100,000 people.

Professor Emer Shelley, from the Royal College of Physicians, is worried about a further spike after Christmas. 

Meat Plants:
Research on why meat plants are a hotspot for Covid-19 and how misinformation around a vaccine can be tackled have been funded by the Government.

39 in total have been given the green light as over 10 million euro in funding has been invested in the studies.

Nine of the projects will be carried out as part of an all-island study.

Of the cases notified yesterday;

198 are men / 230 are women

66% are under 45 years of age.

The median age is 34 years old. 

122 in Dublin, 46 in Donegal, 30 in Limerick, 22 in Laois, 20 in Cork and the remaining 189 cases are spread across all other counties.

Offaly has 10 news cases and there are less than five in Westmeath.
