It happened on the M6 just after the Rochfortbridge exit.
A section of the M6 motorway remains closed in both direction following a crash in Westmeath this morning.
The incident, took place at around 7am on the M6 near Rochfortbridge, involves a car, a jeep with a trailer and a truck.
While the Eastbound lane is closed after junction three, loose cows are causing further issues with a number making it onto the Westbound lane.
Gardaí are asking anyone travelling from the Athlone/Galway direction to leave the M6 at junction 4 Tyrrellspass.
A passenger of one of the vehicles has been taken to Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore for treatment of what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
Diversions are currently being put in place.
