Decision To Close Of Midlands Jobs Club Branded As "Scandalous"

The Department of Social Protection is removing the local employment service.

A midlands TD is branding the closure of an Offaly jobs club as "scandalous". 

The Department of Social Protection is removing the public employment service from Birr, in favour of a privatised approach. 

Independent Carol Nolan says this JobPath programme has been criticised for being difficult to deal with and placing people in jobs they're not suited to. 

She also says it's cost the government in the region of €250 million to date.

The Laois-Offaly deputy says the decision will deprive the community of a personal approach:
