Dublin MEP Believes Next European Commissioner Will Be A Woman

A Midlands North West MEP is in the mix for the role.

A Fianna Fáil MEP says Ireland's next European Commissioner is almost certain to be a woman.

The three government party leaders met last night to discuss Phil Hogan's replacement.

They were asked to nominate a man and a woman, and the European Commission will then decide which portfolio the person gets.

Dublin MEP Barry Andrews says Fine Gael's Frances Fitzgerald and Midlands North West MEP Mairead McGuinness are among the front-runners:
