The Portlaoise councillor has been a public representative for since 1979.
Willie Aird of Fine Gael has become the first candidate elected in the midlands for General Election 2024.
The Fine Gael Councillor knew he was on the way to topping the poll from very early on.
After the fifth count, Mr. Aird exceeded the quota, thanks to 149 votes transferred from Rosie Palmer of the Green Party.
The newly elected deputy entered public life 45 years ago.
