It follows a march from sports club members on St. Patrick's Day.
A midlands sports hall will have emergency repairs carried out on its leaking roof.
It comes as hundreds of sports club members, led by the Portlaoise Panthers, marched on council buildings on St Patrick's Day to call for better facilities.
The work on St Mary's Hall in Portlaoise is expected to take approximately eight weeks once it starts.
Sinn Féin Councillor Caroline Dwane Stanley wants a new sports hall suitable for the needs of a growing town's population.
She says key stakeholders including Sport Ireland and Laois County Council need to come together to put a plan in place to bring to government.
