It's to improve the security of supply and reduce high levels of leaks.
Irish Water customers are being warned of essential works starting in Laois today.
Water mains will be upgraded in Portlaoise and Abbeyleix to improve the security of supply and reduce high levels of leaks.
It'll involve the replacement of almost 300 metres of old mains in Colliers Lane and over 1.5 kilometres of old, cast-iron piping in Tonduff.
The works at Colliers Lane are set to be completed by the end of April, and the end of May in Tonduff.
Irish Water says traffic management will be in place and customers will be given 48 hours notice prior to any planned water shut-offs.
