Fears Creches Will Close Within A Month Due To Staffing Shortages

The sector is struggling to identify qualified staff to meet the demand.

There are fears some creches will close within a month due to staffing shortages if employees are required to self isolate to observe public health guidelines. 

The Federation of Early Childcare Providers is calling on the government to allow their members to hire special needs assistants to help alleviate their concerns. 

Two cases of Covid-19 have been reported in childcare settings in the midlands since facilities re-opened. 

Chairperson Elaine Dunne says the sector is having problems identifying qualified staff:
