Fears That Costs Of Christmas Lights Will Deter Communities From Getting Involved

Westmeath councillors are calling for a rebate from the ESB.

The ESB is facing calls for a reduction on the cost of Christmas lights to small towns and villages. 

Westmeath County Council is writing to the electricity supplier at the request of local representatives, asking for a rebate on the upcoming period for selected areas. 

The local authority issues grants to help cover costs each year but fears linger that a hefty bill may deter some community groups from erecting displays in the future.
