Flawed Funding Model Will Leave Laois Footpaths In Need Of Repair "For Years"

A local councillor is calling for changes to how money is allocated.

It'll take years to fix the significant amount of footpaths in need of repair in Laois if the funding model isn't changed.

That's the warning from Councillor Barry Walsh, who's seeking the reinstatement of annual footpath-repair funding.

As it stands, local authorities rely on discretionary funding to carry out works on walkways.

But the Fine Gael rep says there's an inefficient amount allocated annually to repair every footpath in the area:
