The residences should be able to house a total of 8 people.
Two Laois disability projects have been granted Government funding.
A Community residence in Portlaoise with facilities to house four people living with intellectual disabilites has seen funding approved for the assessment and design.
Assessment of the purchase of another residence in Summerhill in Portlaoise able to accommodate four people with intellectual disabilites has also received the green light.
The aim is to help people living with disabilites to have suitable housing and be close to family and the local community and local amenities.
The funding comes from the €23m programme and target's of the Government to expand on day services, respite facilities and services for children.
