Gardaí are closing an investigation into the theft of over €500,000 from Westmeath County Council.
The incident occurred last February when scammers contacted the local authority about a supplier changing bank details with a request for an update of the local authority's payment details.
A sum of €515,000 was transferred to the account which was later flagged as a scam and led to both internal and external investigations by the local authority and Gardaí.
The chair of Westmeath County Council Liam McDaniel says releasing information on how it happened could benefit other local authorities:
