The move would encourage the construction of more affordable homes.

The cost of building a home could drop by over €20,000, under plans being considered by Government.

The coalition is considering abolishing development levies, in a bid to encourage the construction of affordable homes.

The levies are charged at different rates per local authority, and cover footpaths, sewage, water and other essential infrastructure.
