It's one of the reasons to abolish the carer's allowance means test according Longford Westmeath general election candidate Sorca Clarke.
The Sinn Fein TD was first elected to the Dail in 2020 topping the poll, having previously served on Westmeath County Council from 2014.
Deputy Clarke is the party's education spokesperson, and is also pledging to build student housing and abolish student fees.
