'High Risk' Pregnancy Antenatal Care Moved From Midlands Hospital

This follows serious incidents.

Expecting mothers deemed "high risk" will no longer receive maternity care from Portiuncula Hospital.

The announcement comes after a series of serious incidents, including seven cases of babies suffering brain injuries during or after birth since 2024.

The criteria for defining what a high risk pregnancy is set to be expanded.

This means pregnant women with gestational diabetes, a high BMI, or a history of issues during previous labours will be sent to other maternity wards in the region.
