The non-compliance is attributable to an incident that occurred since the previous inspection.
A hospital in Offaly has been found non-compliant by HIQA due to an administration issue when it comes to reporting unintended exposures to radiation.
Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore was also found to be substantially compliant in undertaking management structures in relation to radiation protection.
The non-compliance stemms from an incident that occured since a previous inspection in October 2023.
The hospital emailed details to HIQA, but failed to submit them through the required form, and missed a three day reporting deadline.
Inspectors noted an investigation had been completed and due to an oversight, results and corrective measures weren't sent to the health care watch dog within the 120 day timeline.
Despite this, inspectors were satisfied during their July visit, that an appropriate system was in place for the recording and analysis of events involving accidental or unintended medical exposures.
They also noted Tullamore is part of a joint radiation safety committee with another midlands hospital which met twice a year.
Inspectors reviewed the terms of reference for this committee where items such as equipment quality assurance and staff training were discussed.
Despite this, inspectors felt there was scope for improvement when it came to the clear allocation of responsibilities for the protection people from medical exposure to ionising radiation.
The hospital was given a 'substantially compliant' rating in the regulation area.
The facility recorded full compliance in all other areas, with management promising the Radiation Protection Unit will monitor all reportable incidents to ensure compliance with HIQA reporting requirements.
