Five marts in the midlands will close.
The Irish Farmers Association says it supports the decision to close hundreds of marts across the country today.
ICOS, which represent co-ops running marts, says the 'blanket closure' is disappointing.
Marts in Birr, Ballinakill, Delvin, Tullamore and Roscrea will all shut.
But IFA president and Toomevara's Tim Cullinan says the government's decision is understandable:
