Longford Westmeath TD Peter Burke says they are aiming to reduce the time it takes to adjudicate on someone's right to stay from almost years to 12 weeks.
There was a 1000% increase in the number of people presenting in Dublin airport and ports across Ireland looking for asylum between January 2021 and 2022.
