Ireland Ambassador Surprised at Israeli Criticism

Ireland's Ambassador to Israel has met with Israel's Foreign Ministry, and expressed her surprise at the country's criticism of the Irish Government.

The Department of Foreign Affairs says Sonya McGuinness presented "full statements" issued by the Taoiseach and Tánaiste following the release of Irish-Israeli girl Emily Hand.

The 9-year-old had been held captive by Hamas for 50 days before her release to Red Cross representatives on Saturday night.

Israel took exception to Leo Varadkar referring to Emily Hand as having been "lost" and "found", which led to Israeli officials saying he needed a "reality check."
