Ireland Facing Rise In Road Deaths

Eight people have lost their lives in midlands counties.

Ireland is facing a 16% increase in road deaths for 2022, according to new data.

Statistics compiled by the Irish Independent found Sligo has the largest rate of road fatalities per capita, at 8-point-5-9.

Six people have been killed on the county's roads this year, compared to one in 2021.

Monaghan, Limerick and Cavan also had high rates of fatal crashes this year.

Three people in both Laois and Offaly have died in crashes, while in Westmeath two people have lost their lives this year.
