The village has no lights, while upgrades await funding.
A Laois Councillor is comparing his local village to a third world location.
The comments come as Durrow councillor Ollie Clooney is calling for more lighting in Ballacolla village, saying it is shameful place to be at night.
There are currently no poles for lights in the village, and any improvements for lighting will be subject to funding.
He says there needs to be more done to put Ballacolla back on the map:
