It's hoped the first stages of one Laois town's streetscape upgrades will be complete by the end of the year.
Laois County Council is to appoint a contractor this week to carry out a topographical survey of Mountrath, to review its public realm, roads and cycleways.
It's been requested by local independent councillor James Kelly, who says the project could be funded through the Reimagine Mountrath town plan and the Town and Village Streetscape Enhancement Scheme.
He thinks improving the public realm should be a priority:
