A Laois woman has been prosecuted for the destruction of vegetation on uncultivated land in the county.
Sarah Baldwin from Oldglass, Grantstown hired William Shirley of Old Glass, Ballacolla, in Laois to carry out the works using a mechanically propelled vehicle.
The case was taken by the National Parks and Wildlife Service with Judge Andrew Cody ordering her to donate €4,000 to a wildlife charity.
The Wildlife Act prohibits destruction of any vegetation growing on uncultivated land or in hedgerows during the period from March 1st to August 31st.
