William Delaney was 56 when last seen in Portlaoise on January 31st 2019.
Gardaí investigating the disappearance of the father of eight arrested a man aged in his 20s yesterday.
He's currently being detained in Portlaoise Garda Station.
Unsuccessful searches took place at the Rock of Dunamaise and Monesterevin in 2019 and gardaí renewed their public appeal for information last month.
