Gardaí are appealing to anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area to come forward.
Investigations are underway after a man impersonating a garda tried to enter a home in Laois.
The incident occurred in the Kennels Cross area of Portarlington at about 5.30 on Tuesday evening.
The man, described as 5ft 8 in height and well-dressed, called to the house and tried to enter.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone who drove through the area, were out walking, have CCTV or dashcam footage, or saw any suspicious activity to contact Kildare Garda Station.
