Man Ordered To Remain Out Of Laois As Part Of Bail Conditions

A special sitting of Portlaoise District Court took place at 11 o'clock this morning.

A man was ordered to stay away from places of detention and to desist from flying drones near places of detention when he appeared at a special sitting of Portlaoise District Court on Friday 8 January.

Dean Swaine 7 Millview, Ballintore, Co. Kildare was brought before the court charged with possessing drugs and with possessing drugs for the purpose of sale or supply at Saint John's Square, Portlaoise on Wednesday 6 January.

Prosecuting Garda Detective Eoin Gardiner said that the defendant was arrested and charged and made no reply after caution.

He said there were no garda objections to conditional bail being granted to the defendant.

Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick sought free legal aid for her client which was granted by the presiding Judge Catherine Staines.

The judge remanded Mr Swaine on his own bail of €100 on condition that he stays out of Laois and out of Portlaoise with the exception of visiting his solicitor. That he stays away from all places of detention. That he desists from flying drones over places of detention. That he abstains from alcohol and drugs and that he provides gardaí with a phone number and be available to take their calls 24 hours.

Judge Staines went on to adjourn the case until 4 March to allow time for the Director of Public Prosecution to provide directions in the case.
