Maths Curriculum To Change For Primary Schools Next Year

A midlands teacher welcomes the change.

Significant changes to the primary school maths curriculum are being welcomed by a midlands teacher.

Education Minister Norma Foley announced the changes to the format, which will now put an emphasis on playfulness, creativity and solving real-life problems.

It'll come into effect from next September, leaving teachers with a year to familiarise themselves with the new curriculum.

Deirdre Fleming is an Irish National Teachers' Organisation Central Executive Committee Representative, and a teacher at Scoil Bhride in Knockmay, Portlaoise.
