Midlands Accounts For 5% Of Domestic Abuse Cases In Ireland

There have been a total of 24,686 incidents reported nationally this year.

Gardaí in the midlands have dealt with over 1,200 reports of domestic abuse so far this year. 

790 visits were made by officers in Laois and Offaly, with a further 493 incidents attended in Westmeath up to September 9th. 

They represent 5% of the national total of 24,686 issued by the Minister of State for Justice Hildegarde Naughton in response to a parliamentary question. 

Noeline Blackwell, from Dublin Rape Crisis Centre, says the level of abuse is very concerning.
