Midlands Councillors To Seek Extra Funding For Deteriorating Roads

Cllr Neil Feighery is highlighting concerns about the worsening condition of roads.

Midland councillors to write to the Transport Minister regarding the condition of local roads.

At the most recent Tullamore Municipal District meeting, Tullamore Councillor Neil Feighery raised concerns over the deteriorating roads in the town and wider area.

Cllr Feighery sought approval from his fellow councillors to write to the Minister Darragh O'Brien to raise his concerns.

The chamber was in agreement with the Fine Gael councillor.

Cllr Feighery says additional funding is needed to maintain roads in the county.

The extra funding would aim to address the unique situation that roads in Tullamore and the Midlands face.

As many of the roads in these areas are built on peat foundations, they often deteriorate quickly, with potholes and uneven surfaces becoming an issue for motorists.

As these roads require regular repairs, full restoration of any road is a challenge.

Furthermore, smaller roads are often overlooked, as more heavily used or larger roads often need to be prioritised.

Cllr Feighery says this is an issue that residents of his constituency often raise with him directly.

As many try to maintain their cars and stay safe on the roads, Cllr Feighery says additional funding is necessary to address this issue:

Funded by the Local Democracy Scheme.
