A Kildare South Fianna Fail TD is making the call.
24-hour refuges for victims of domestic violence need to be opened in every midlands county.
That's according to Kildare South TD, Fiona O'Loughlin, who says the current resources are struggling to keep up with demand - and the system itself is flawed.
She says the main midlands centre - located in Kildare town - has turned away 78 women and 114 children.
She also believes improvements are needed in how gardaí and the courts deal with domestic violence cases - and is calling on the Justice Minister to set up a dedicated family court immediately.
