Sergeants Paul Halpin and Brian O'Keeffe

One of them has recovered from a serious parachuting accident.

A member of the Defence Forces seriously injured during a training incident at the Custume Barracks in Athlone four years ago is being recognised for his courage.

While another member based in Offaly is receiving an honour for his work at the Air Corps Flight Training School.

The Defence Forces Values Awards aim to highlight outstanding conduct and standards within the army.

Sergeant Paul Halpin was given the Values Champion Award after recovering from serious trauma to his head and legs.

He sustained the injuries when a parachute jump went wrong and he hit a stationary truck during a landing in 2016.

Sergeant Halpin explains his remarkable recovery:

Brian O'Keeffe, who's living in Walsh Island, is Flight Sergeant at the Air Corps Flight Training School and has been a member of the Defence Forces for 28 years.

He's being rewarded for his selflessness and work with young technicians at the school.

Sergeant O'Keefe says he's just doing what he loves:

Both were honoured at a behind closed doors ceremony in Baldonnell.
