Midlands Famine Way Marks Ill-Fated Story Of Emigration

Only half of the group which left Roscommon survived the journey to Canada. 

A 165km Famine Walk is being launched in the midlands. 

The trail follows the footsteps of almost 1,500 people who walked along the Royal Canal in Westmeath to Dublin in order to board a coffin ship during the height of the famine in 1847.
