Midlands Forecaster Calling For More Serious Storm Warning

He thinks Storm Ellen could be a lot more destructive than anticipated.

A status orange storm warning should be issued for the entire country, according to a midlands forecaster.

Met Éireann has put a red wind alert in place for Cork from 9 o'clock tonight, orange for the rest of Munster, Galway and Mayo, and a yellow warning for all other counties.

But Rhode's Cathal Nolan from Ireland's Weather Channel reckons the timing of this storm could make it particularly dangerous:

 Very severe and destructive winds are being forecast.

Head of Forecasting at Met Éireann, Clonaslee's Evelyn Cusack says we're in for a bad few days:

The government is also urging anyone camping today to pack up and go home as soon as possible.

Local authorities are now deploying temporary flood defences and putting response staff on standby.
