The long awaited development follows extensive campaigning by the Offaly school.
A midlands Gaelscoil has been given the green light for a new building.
Gaelscoil na Laochra in Birr had been leasing a building from Offaly County Council, but Laois Offaly TD Carol Nolan says that arrangement wouldn't have worked indefinitely.
The project has been in the pipeline for a number of years, and comes off the back of campaigning from the principal and the school's board of management.
Deputy Nolan says the school can now plan for the future:
She also says:
'I also want to acknowledge Laois and Offaly Education and Training Board who have been working diligently to advance the project.
In particular I want to highly commend the determination of the Príomhoide Niamh Uí Chléirigh, and patron body An Foras Patrúnachta as well as the school's Board of Management and Cllr John Carrol.
Now that the approval has finally arrived, we need to see urgent delivery. That is the end point that all of us want to achieve for the children, the staff and the entire Birr community.'
Tá ríméad orainn a rá libh go bhfuil cead pleanála faighte againn don scoil nua! We are delighted to inform you we have been granted planning permission for our new school. @AFPatrunachta @Gaeloid @Midlands103 @MidlandTrib @offalyindo pic.twitter.com/0wsXW2dvLe
